Seminyak

The tropical palm beach of Seminyak is about a 25 minute walk from Villa Kelapa, by the Jalan Djanapura, a nice street with shops, restaurants, cafes and shops.

On the beach you can walk to the left to the famous Kuta beach, to see the surfers, or join them maybe?

When taking a right and passing the numerous kites and fancy restaurants, you will come to a very quiet palm beach.

Around the house

The busy entertainment and shopping area of Kuta and Legian is a 20 minute taxi ride.

The famous "Tanah Lot" water temple is about 30 minutes from the house and is worth a visit, in particular during sun dawn.

Another water temple to visit is the one on the south point of the island: Ulu Watu. This temple is a architectural highlight of Bali. (a 45 minute taxi ride)

In Sanur, the famous beach resort (and a 30 minute ride) is worth visiting, if only to see the museum "Le Mayeur". The Belgian painter lived and worked here from 1935 until his death in 1958. The paintings from his Bali period can be seen here in this traditional, beautiful house.

Puru Luhur Batukau is our favorite temple of Bali. This mysterious temple, in the middle of the forest on the slopes of Batukau mountain, is often blanketed in fog. It is on your way when visiting Ubud.

Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali is one hour by car from Villa Kelapa.

For contemporary Balinese art you do want to visit this village of Ubud. Have a look around in one or more of the museums: the Neka Art, the Agung Rai (ARMA) or the Puri Lukisan. Another famous attraction is Monkey Forest. Be careful not to loose your hat or your glasses to the monkeys!

There are a number of nice restaurants in Ubud.

You may wish to visit a Kecak- or Barong-dancing show in the early evening, to return to the house in time.

Transport

For trips near the house it is best to take a taxi. They are metered and not expensive.

For longer trips, such as Ubud, you may want to hire a car.

We do recommend that you hire a chauffeur, if you are not an experienced Asian driver. Make sure to bring your international driver's license if you choose to drive yourself.

A car will cost around € 12, the chauffeur an additional € 23 per day. There are also bikes or motor bikes for rent. (around € 8)

Ask the manager of Villa Kelapa for any assistance. The manager can arrange tours for you as well, standard or tailor made. This might be interesting if you plan to visit the North or East of the island.

He will be able to arrange discounts of 20% on hotels and tours. He is available as a qualified tour leader, too, at € 23 per day.

SELAMAT JALAN (bon voyage!)
